How to get Mechanical Squirrel
The Mechanical Squirrel Box is crafted with Engineering 75 after learning Schematic: Mechanical Squirrel, a low-level world-drop recipe. Crafting requires 1 Copper Modulator, 1 Handful of Copper Bolts, 1 Copper Bar, and 2 Malachite. The finished box binds when used, so collectors do not need Engineering themselves: you can buy the crafted box from another player or the Auction House and use it to learn the companion.
Get the world-drop schematic
Schematic: Mechanical Squirrel is a world drop rather than a trainer recipe. Classic references place it primarily on lower-level creatures, and it can also appear through fishing in similarly low-level areas.
Because the schematic is tradable, checking the Auction House is often faster than deliberately farming a specific creature.
Craft the Mechanical Squirrel Box
An engineer with 75 Engineering can craft the box using one Copper Modulator, one Handful of Copper Bolts, one Copper Bar, and two Malachite.
The recipe is low-level by Engineering standards, making this one of the earliest crafted companion pets available in Vanilla Classic.
You do not need Engineering to collect it
The finished Mechanical Squirrel Box binds when used rather than when crafted. That means another engineer can make it for you, or you can purchase one from the Auction House.
Use the finished box to summon and learn the Mechanical Squirrel companion.
A mechanical squirrel's logic center tells it to collect and store both nuts and bolts for the winter.
