How to get Prairie Chicken
For the straightforward Vanilla route, go to Saldean's Farm in Westfall and buy Special Chicken Feed from Farmer Saldean. Target a normal Chicken and repeatedly use /chicken until it becomes friendly and offers CLUCK!. Accept the quest, /cheer at a chicken as instructed, then turn in the feed. The chicken lays a Farm Chicken Egg that can be looted for the bind-on-pickup Chicken Egg companion. In the original Vanilla/Classic ruleset, Alliance can complete the quest directly; Horde collectors need an Alliance player to complete it and can loot the spawned egg.
Buy Special Chicken Feed first
The easiest place to do the entire secret is Saldean's Farm in Westfall. Farmer Saldean sells Special Chicken Feed and chickens wander nearby, so you can prepare the required item before triggering the quest.
In the Vanilla ruleset, Farmer Saldean is the practical source of the feed for the direct Alliance route.
Spam /chicken until the chicken responds
Target a normal Chicken and repeatedly use /chicken. Each attempt has a chance to make the chicken respond and become friendly long enough to offer the hidden quest CLUCK!.
A simple /chicken macro makes the process less tedious. The exact number of attempts varies, so keep going until the chicken becomes interactable.
Complete CLUCK! and loot the egg
Accept CLUCK!, then /cheer at a chicken before turning in one Special Chicken Feed as the quest instructs. The turn-in causes the chicken to lay a Farm Chicken Egg on the ground.
Loot the spawned egg to receive Chicken Egg, the bind-on-pickup item that summons Prairie Chicken. Pick it up promptly because the egg exists as a world object rather than being placed directly in your bags.
Horde needs Alliance assistance in Vanilla
The original Vanilla/Classic implementation does not give Horde the same direct quest route. The established workaround is to have an Alliance player complete CLUCK! and allow the Horde collector to loot the spawned Farm Chicken Egg.
Because Chicken Egg binds when picked up, this works through the shared spawned egg rather than by trading the pet item afterward.
Don't call this bird chicken unless you want egg on your face.
