How to get Emerald Whelpling
Farm Dreaming Whelps in the Swamp of Sorrows, around 14, 62, for the Tiny Emerald Whelpling. The Classic companion guide estimates the rarity at roughly 0.05%. In Vanilla, Dreaming Whelps are the relevant source; later patches and expansions changed or expanded the pet's drop table. The item binds when used, so it can also be bought or traded unopened.
Farm Dreaming Whelps in the Swamp of Sorrows
The Classic companion guide places the green-whelp farm around 14, 62 in the Swamp of Sorrows. Dreaming Whelps are the Vanilla target for Tiny Emerald Whelpling.
The surrounding green dragonkin are useful context, but do not assume every nearby whelp shares the same Vanilla loot table.
Be careful with later-version source information
Emerald Whelpling's source changed after Vanilla. Adolescent Whelps were added as a source years later, and Cataclysm moved the pet to Noxious Whelps in Feralas.
Forever Companions keeps this page on the Vanilla source: Dreaming Whelps in the Swamp of Sorrows.
The unopened whelpling can be traded
Tiny Emerald Whelpling binds when used, so collectors do not have to personally win the rare drop.
Auction House listings can be expensive because the direct farm is slow, but buying the unopened item is fully compatible with the Vanilla acquisition rules.
The WoW Pet Journal describes the modern Emerald Whelpling as a green dragon breed associated with Itharius and the forests of Feralas. That lore text was added after the original Vanilla-era Swamp of Sorrows acquisition.
