WoW Forever companion pet
Dark Whelpling
Dark Whelpling is a rare Vanilla Classic dragon companion dropped by black whelps in the Badlands and Dustwallow Marsh. The bind-on-use pet is a long farm, with the Badlands usually offering the cleaner route.

How to get Dark Whelpling
Farm black dragon whelps for the Dark Whelpling. The Classic companion guide lists Scalding Whelps in the Badlands around 79, 35 and Searing Whelps in Dustwallow Marsh around 47, 70 near Onyxia's Lair. The guide estimates the pet at roughly a 0.05% drop rate. The item binds when used, so an unopened Dark Whelpling can also be bought or traded.
Farm Scalding Whelps in the Badlands
The Badlands is the usual Dark Whelpling farm. The Classic guide places the Scalding Whelp area around 79, 35, and Warcraft Wiki also identifies the Badlands as the preferred route because the target whelps are less mixed with unrelated enemies.
This is still a very rare drop. Plan around a long grind rather than expecting a pet within a particular number of kills.
Searing Whelps are an alternate route
Searing Whelps in Dustwallow Marsh can also drop Dark Whelpling. The Classic guide places that farm around 47, 70 near Onyxia's Lair.
The Dustwallow route has more unrelated enemies mixed into the area, so it is generally less efficient if your only goal is the pet.
The pet can be bought instead of farmed
Dark Whelpling binds when used, not when it drops. Farmers can therefore sell an unopened pet on the Auction House or trade it directly.
For collectors with more gold than time, checking the Auction House can be a reasonable alternative to a very low-probability world-drop farm.
Hopes that someday it can grow up to destroy villages.
